Graduation Assessment

All students will be automatically assessed for graduation upon completion of their program requirements. Please refer to policy D20 - Graduation and Convocation for more information. You can access unofficial transcripts through your My Olds College account under Student Services.

Ceremony Details

As you have registered for the Convocation Ceremony, we wanted to provide you with some important details.

    1. Arrive by 8:30 a.m. to the Ralph Klein Centre located at Olds College. 
    2. Retrieve your gown and stole in the Gown Pick-Up Area.
    3. Note your assigned Quad when you check in.
    4. Please ensure you are in your assigned Quad by 9:00 a.m.
    5. Announcements and Student Line Up will occur by 9:30 a.m. 
    6. Following the ceremony please return your gown and stole to the drop off location. Failure to return your gown and stole will result in a charge for replacement. 

    Parking Information: 

    • Parking is available in the parking lots adjacent to the Ralph Klein Centre, Residence, and Lot D on campus. 
    • Parking is complimentary for Convocation.
    • There will be complimentary buses to help take guests to and from the Ralph Klein Centre.

    Important Information for Graduates & Graduands:

    • The ceremony is expected to last approximately two hours. We kindly request that all students and guests remain for the entire duration. Please note that seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
    • The following items are not permitted with you during the ceremony: cell phone; camera; purses, bags and backpacks; corsages; flowers; jackets; or mementos. There is no secure location to keep your personal items and they are not permitted in the ceremony location. Items left unattended are not the responsibility of Olds College.
    • Honour cords are awarded in accordance with Policy & Procedure D20. Honours and Distinction designations are awarded with the issuance of your credential. For Graduands that are in the process of, or recently completed program requirements after April 30, your Honour and Distinction designations will be assessed in October and cords can be mailed.
    • Caps: During the Convocation Ceremony, you will receive a graduation cap to wear and keep as a souvenir. Remember to keep the tassel on the right side throughout the ceremony. Consider your hairstyle accordingly.
    • Parchments: As a reminder, official parchments will not be presented at the Convocation Ceremony. Instead, students who have met graduation requirements will receive parchments by mail. Please ensure your mailing address is correct within your MyOldsCollege account.
    • Gifts: Flowers will be available for sale in the foyer of the Ralph Klein Centre - you can pre-order flowers! The Olds College Campus Store will have Olds College merchandise and graduation-related items for sale. 
    • Photos: Professional stage crossing photographs will be posted on our website. Graduates can download their stage crossing photos at gradphotos.ca/oldscollege with the password OldsColl24.

    Ceremony Instructions for Guests:

    • We recommend that you arrive early to secure a seat at the 2024 Convocation Event. 
    • We ask that as a courtesy to your fellow students that you limit your guests in attendance to no more than five individuals. 
    • Guests are reminded to not leave their seats during the ceremony out of respect for the students. Professional stage crossing photographs will be posted on our website.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please direct any questions to the SAOC (Students’ Association of Olds College).

  • Please ensure you leave your phone, suit jackets (you will get too hot), purses, wallets, and informal hats with your friends or family members. You can also leave these items in the quad room (please note, this room is not secured, Olds College is not responsible for any lost items). Water stations will be available. Please make sure you use a restroom before the event begins.

  • Honour cords are only handed out to students who have completed all the requirements to graduate by April 30. If you have any outstanding grades or have recently completed your program, then you will not be receiving an honour cord at Convocation.

  • Official parchments will not be presented at the Convocation Ceremony. Instead, students who have met graduation requirements will receive parchments by mail. Please ensure your mailing address is correct within your My Olds College account.

  • Every student participating in the Convocation Ceremony will receive a traditional graduation cap to wear during the ceremony and keep as a souvenir of your accomplishment (keep this in mind when considering hairstyles). The tassel should remain on the right for the duration of the ceremony.

  • Yes, there is a professional photographer at the Convocation Ceremony and details will be shared with attendees when they become available.

  • Yes, the event will be livestreamed with the recording being posted for viewing afterwards.

  • You do not need to RSVP for guests. Seating for family and guests is first-come, first-served. We ask you to limit it to 5 guests. 

  • Yes, there will be Indigenous celebrations at Convocation. Details will be shared with attendees when they become available.

  • Yes, in the foyer of the Ralph Klein Centre, a vendor will be selling convocation flowers. The Olds College Campus Store will have Olds College merchandise and swag for sale.
