Workshops and Training

At Olds College, we are dedicated to supporting the well-being of our students and staff through a variety of engaging and educational health and wellness workshops. These sessions are designed to provide tools, resources, and information to help you thrive academically, personally, and professionally.

  • This workshop equips people to be more alert to someone thinking of suicide and better able to connect them with further help. The workshop emphasizes the importance of recognizing the signs, communicating with the person considering suicide and getting help or resources for the person considering suicide

  • This training is intended to build the capacity of professionals, paraprofessionals and community members to respond effectively to disclosures of sexual assault and sexual abuse. Survivors who receive safe and supportive responses to disclosures of sexual violence are more likely to reach out for help from medical and counselling services and/ or report to police.

  • At Olds College, we believe that every member of our campus community has a role to play in creating a safe and supportive environment. Our Bystander Intervention Training equips students, staff, and faculty with the skills and confidence to safely intervene in situations that may involve harassment, bullying, sexual and gender-based violence, hazing, or other harmful behaviors.

  • Naloxone training typically covers important information on how naloxone works, its potential side effects, proper administration techniques, and when to use it in case of an opioid poisoning. This training translates into all layers of a person's life, opioid poisoning can happen at any time and anywhere. College campuses are especially at risk based on the Canadian statistics of opioid abuse. Training may include recognizing the signs of an opioid overdose, steps to take in an emergency, how to administer naloxone via injection, and legal considerations. Naloxone training is designed to ensure that individuals are prepared to use this life-saving medication effectively in emergency situations involving opioids. Certification provided upon completion.

  • The ADHD Skills Workshop is to support and ease the transition for students who self-identify as having ADHD as they enter the college environment. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, is a common mental health concern characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity. Being proactive and offering resources to students can help build skills for positive mental health before concerns arise.

  • This event focuses on substance use education from a harm reduction lens. The education is based on Alberta’s safe consumption and alcohol consumption guidelines, with the information being delivered in an engaging and personalized format for Olds College students. It is a fun and engaging way to learn more about the choices you and your peers make about drug and alcohol use. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available at The Crossing where this event is hosted. The event consists of trivia games all while a hot wing eating competition occurs. There are lots of prizes to be won so bring your friends and have fun!

  • Olds College is offering First Aid Training in partnership with St. John Ambulance, providing both Standard First Aid and Basic (Emergency) First Aid courses. These training sessions are essential for students, staff, and community members looking to gain life-saving skills and meet workplace safety requirements.

  • Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training program designed to teach participants how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, provide initial support, and guide a person towards appropriate professional help. Much like physical first aid, MHFA helps to offer early intervention before situations escalate. The training covers a range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, substance use, and trauma, equipping participants with strategies to handle these situations effectively and safely.

    The program aims to reduce stigma, enhance mental health literacy, and empower individuals to offer compassionate support to those experiencing a mental health crisis or struggling with their mental well-being.

  • The Working Mind (TWM) Training is an evidence-based program designed to promote mental health and reduce stigma in the workplace. Developed by the Mental Health Commission of Canada, it aims to educate employees, managers, and leaders on mental health, stress management, and ways to support themselves and their colleagues.

  • Respect in the Workplace is a comprehensive training program focused on creating a positive, inclusive, and respectful work environment. It aims to educate employees and leaders on understanding, identifying, and preventing behaviors that contribute to a toxic or hostile workplace, such as harassment, bullying, discrimination, and microaggressions.

  • Olds College is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive campus environment where all students feel welcome and respected. To support this, we offer the "StandUp to Hazing" training course, designed to educate students, staff, and student leaders about the dangers of hazing and empower them to take a stand against it.

    Through this training participants will gain access to the StandUp to Hazing course which is delivered online. Following the completion of the online course participants will be invited to an in-person session.
