Pitch your Plan at DiscoveryLab@AgSmart on July 29

July 02, 2024

We’re inviting startups, new ventures and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involved in agriculture technology and agribusiness to join DiscoveryLab@AgSmart on July 29 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and pitch their plan in front of a panel of investors, business advisors and industry experts.

“We’re really excited to co-host the first-ever ag tech-focused DiscoveryLab event at AgSmart and Olds College in July,” said Lorna Baird, Manager of Entrepreneurship & Innovation at Olds College. Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) helps develop, validate and demonstrate technologies and innovative solutions that solve real-world problems for Canadian farmers and ranchers. Bringing the DiscoveryLab model to the agtech space broadens the support that Olds College can provide to individuals and companies aimed at advancing agriculture.”

Innovators pitching at an event

Companies get the opportunity to provide pitches — either in person or virtually — to a panel of investors and supportive advisors, followed by a question and answer portion. This includes a poll reflecting the strength of the scalable product, unique value, market readiness, intellectual property position, business structure, team depth, competition/risk navigation, ask and investment proposition. Company leaders will receive feedback, scores, a video of their pitch, contacts and introductions during the DiscoveryLab@AgSmart event. Networking and discussions continue over coffee breaks and lunch.

“This event offers access to a network of hundreds of professional advisors and qualified investors that are looking to support innovative companies, including those in the ag tech industry,” said Michael Overduin, CEO, DiscoveryLab. “We welcome teams to pitch plans for free – either in person or virtually – and they receive introductions, same-day scorecards, evaluations and videos of their presentation.”

The event is scheduled for July 29, 2024 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Werklund Agriculture and Technology Centre at Olds College. Potential investors, advisors and pitchers can register for this innovative and entrepreneurial event by visiting the DiscoveryLab@AgSmart Meeting eventbrite link.

DiscoveryLab was formed to support the development of high-growth companies, disruptive innovations and scalable products and services that could make a world of difference.
