Metals Building

The Metals Building at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology has been a vital training facility since its construction in 1964. Over the years it has served to fill the training needs of thousands of students in first, second and third year welding apprenticeship training, full-time program studies, continuing education outreach programming and dual credit programming (CACI partnership).

Recent Building Renovations

In 2023, the Central Alberta Collegiate Institute (CACI) announced they had been awarded $4.4 million in funding from Alberta Education to renovate the Olds College Metals Building, marking this one of the largest K-12 collegiate funding investments of important collegiate facility spaces to date. This project renovated an older welding shop space, and added a fourth welding shop space, in order to update and expand the number of welding booths available to CACI learners.

Olds College is proud to announce the renovations are now complete as of April 2025. The upgraded facility features four fully equipped welding shops, with 15 welding booths in labs A & B and a combined 21 booths in labs C & D. There is also a machine shop with a lathe, a milling machine, band saw and Ironworker equipment required to help support student learning.
