As of Jan. 22, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) requires a provincial attestation letter (PAL) as part of the study permit application for newly admitted international students applying outside Canada. Complete details on PALs can be found on the IRCC website.
Note: Current students in Canada applying to extend their study permit and students who submitted their completed study permit application prior to 8:30 a.m. ET on Jan. 22, 2024 do not require a PAL.
Getting a PAL from Olds College
Once admitted international students accept their offer and pay the tuition deposit, Olds College will request the PAL from the Province of Alberta.
Once the PAL is available, the College will make the document available via the secure platform MyCreds and send an email to the associated Olds College student email address indicating that the PAL is available to download. If you haven't set up your Olds College student email, please visit the Student Email webpage. A $9.50 + tax fee will be required to unlock and share the PAL. (MyCreds charges a fee per share, so Olds College is charging students only for the shares they use to help keep costs low.)
More information on MyCreds is available on our Managing my Credentials page.
Once you’ve received your PAL, you will submit it along with your study permit application to IRCC. IRCC will return any application that does not include a PAL, unless the applicant is otherwise exempt (exemptions are listed on the IRCC website).
Note: Receiving a PAL does not guarantee a study permit approval. Study permit applicants are required to meet all the requirements in order for a study permit to be issued.
