Evaluation of the MINS Process for Carbon Credits

mins-process.webp

Carbon Assets Solutions (CAS) is a Canadian company that uses Mobile Inelastic Neutron Scattering (MINS) technology to determine carbon content in soils that may help producers access carbon credits. Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) has a multi-year project with CAS to provide assistance in the validation of the MINS processing and mapping capabilities, data collection that will enable CAS to validate the MINS carbon measurements in both pasture and crop fields, and a final literature review of gamma radiation on soil health of a production field.

OCCI is also evaluating the autonomous operation of the Series 150 Unit — used to measure, record, and verify sequestered carbon dioxide in soil — alongside assessing the overall safety of the unit. By identifying carbon sequestered in soil, producers can then use this data towards optimizing land management strategies to further aid in carbon sequestration and cash in on carbon credits using the data retrieved from the Series 150.
