Career Fair Helps Students Network

by Jo Anne on February 5, 2010

I dropped in on the annual Career Fair at the Alumni Centre, Friday, January 29.  There were 29 companies with displays and people to talk to about related job possibilities. This was a good chance for Olds College students to network, ask questions and apply for summer or full-time jobs.

This was also a time when Applied Degree program students could meet with companies willing to host their field study.  I hadn’t known that the fourth year of an Applied Degree is spent in a directed field study in their field. They set up their own curriculum and work in the real-world, where they are mentored and paid.

I met up with Trevor (Environmental Horticulture) and Kirsty (Production Horticulture) who were checking out the opportunities at the City of Calgary Parks display.

Later, I spoke with a student who was surprised to learn of jobs in her field that she had never known of.
And another student was pretty sure they had lined up a summer job–excellent!
