The official Olds College 100th anniversary celebration commemorative envelope was announced by Canada Post earlier this month.
The Canada Post stamp program provides a glimpse into Canadian history, culture and inspirations. Each stamp issue has stories to tell and memories to cherish. Canada Post’s 2013 stamp program, unveiled early in June, demonstrates an eclectic mix of topics, including historical figures, artists and significant anniversaries. Two years after the initial submission to the Stamp Program, Olds College was chosen through the Stamp Advisory Committee, who guides the selection of stamp subjects and designs, to be one of six new commemorative envelopes.
“This is a major Centennial initiative that will provide Olds College with significant branding exposure” explains Kerry Moynihan, Centennial General Manager.
Over 500 submissions were brought before a panel that comprised of Canadians from across the country chosen for their knowledge of history, design, philately or other areas of expertise. Their recommendations are shared with Canada Post’s Board of Directors for the final selection.
This envelope is a fitting tribute to Olds College as it acknowledges national appreciation for an elite agricultural institute that has impacted and shaped over 23,000 knowledgeable and strong rural citizens over the past century. This honourable collector’s item will be a signature piece for the 2013 year as a special gifting opportunity for alumni, current and new students, staff and faculty, and for those who take pride in rural post-secondary education; its vision, goals and as an incubator for success for our future leaders.
Olds College will work with the official Canada Post envelope designer to design the envelope. Canada Post will print a minimum of 10,000 envelopes which will be made available at Canada Post retail outlets across the country and sold at approximately three-dollars each. The official date and launch for the Olds College envelope will be made on a date to-be-determined in 2013.
