April 27, 2012 — Adult learners throughout the Rocky Mountain House area now have a one-stop solution to their learning needs, thanks to an exciting new agreement between Campus Alberta Central (CAC) and Rocky Community Learning Council (RCLC). Learners can now access information and support services for post-secondary program offerings from CAC under the RCLC umbrella.
“We are truly excited to announce the signing of this new agreement,” said Jann Beeston, General Manger with Campus Alberta Central. “Working hand-in-hand with organizations like the Rocky Community Learning Council allows us to assist in the building of stronger, more vibrant communities.”
Campus Alberta Central is a joint venture between Olds College and Red Deer College and works in partnership with other post-secondary institutions. These partnerships allow access to accredited post-secondary courses and programs in 30 central Alberta communities.
Building a strong and flexible learning network at the community level requires collaborative thinking and shared leadership. Campus Alberta Central is pleased to partner with this community learning organization that has both operated within the Rocky community and been part of the provincial learning network for 35 years.
“This new partnership will allow greater flexibility and sharing of resources in order to keep up with the changing nature of adult education,” said Donna Reid, Executive Director of RCLC. “We also can have a wider range of conversations with adult learners in our community and provide more local input into future programs. I think learners will benefit from community learning organizations such as ours being aligned regionally with Olds College and Red Deer College through Campus Alberta Central.”
The Rocky Community Learning Council is one of 80 Community Adult Learning Councils in Alberta. RCLC has partnered with numerous community organizations and is known for their Adult Tutoring Program, Family Literacy Programs, English Language Learning, computer training, annual Wellness Conference, a variety of videoconference workshops and more.
“The Rocky Community Learning Council has a long history of involvement in adult education in Rocky and is governed by a local board,” noted Jim Muhlbeier, Chair of the RCLC. “Providing services and support to post –secondary learners and programs seemed a logical next step in our efforts to help learners.”
