Seeking to ensure the long term sustainability of Olds College as we approach our 100th year in 2013, Olds College announces today that the Student Recruitment division will report directly to the Vice-President, Academic and Research, effective December 1, 2011.

“Olds College prides itself on our agility in getting out in front of big picture trends in our operating environment,” said Dr. Tom Thompson, President. “We have a new Premier, new Finance, Advanced Education and Technology, and Treasury Board Ministers and they are signalling that sustainability of the public post-secondary system is crucial. We know that as the population of Canada ages, there will be more and more pressure on government purses from health care, while the traditional post-secondary target population of 18 to 24 year-olds shrinks. With this re-alignment, we’re getting out in front of these situational realities and taking charge of our own destiny, just as we have done for the past 99 years.”

The Director of Student Recruitment’s title will be changed to the Director of Strategic Enrolment Management (SEM) and Jeff Suderman and his team will report to Dr. Jason Dewling, Vice-President, Academic and Research.

“An Olds College education is essentially a product; a niche-specific, highly marketable commodity. What we’re doing with this move, to draw an analogy, is putting the marketing group in closer alignment with our operations and production – our academic division,” said Dr. Dewling. “Our Minister’s mandate letter from Premier Redford shows clear opportunity for growth in rural Alberta for those who are ready to seize it. We will take the approach that SEM is an integrated effort of the college as a whole, and will be formulating a plan that will engage potential students in Grade 9 on through to the time they become Olds College alumni.”

Olds College full-load equivalent (FLE) enrolment for the most recently completed academic year was 1258, down slightly (2.8%) from the year previous. Graduate survey results consistently show our graduates gain employment in their field 95% of the time and that that 94% of them are satisfied with the overall quality of an Olds College education.
