Olds College has signed two dynamic new players to the Broncos Women’s Basketball team.
Jerri-lyn Chisholm, the starting power forward for the 2010 Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) Women’s Basketball Champion, SAIT Trojans, will now bring her prowess over to the Broncos. As well, Lexi Kambeitz from Red Deer’s Hunting Hills High School will be on the court for the first day of training on September 7.
“I loved my time, teammates and coaches at SAIT,” says Chisholm. “But Coach Reg Carrick has given me this opportunity to come in on the ground floor and help him and Coach Lendvay build a program at Olds. We have games against ACAC teams this fall. I don’t expect to lose and I will make sure my teammates are onboard with that as well.”
The signing of Chisholm, a fully established ACAC athlete, is considered a major coup for the Broncos, who hope to eventually move from the Alberta Colleges Athletics League (ACAL) to the ACAC. The Broncos Women’s Basketball team won Gold in the ACAL Championships in the 2009-2010 Season. Encouragement to join the Broncos came from Carrick, recently hired as Olds College Athletics Programmer and Co-Head Coach of Women’s Basketball. Carrick was previously Associate Head Coach at SAIT.
Kambeitz was Co-Captain of the Senior Hunting Hills Lightning High School Team. She helped lead her team to win the 4A Central Alberta Zones and the Red Deer City Championship.
“These two women come from reputable programs and have displayed both leadership and a keen understanding of the game,” says Greg Lendvay, Olds College Director of Health and Wellness and Broncos Womens’ Basketball Coach. “They bring a presence you don’t have to teach and we are looking forward an excellent season.”
The Olds College Broncos regular ACAL season will start in January 2011 with Alberta College Athletic Conference (ACAC) exhibition games running throughout the fall of 2010.
