On Saturday, September 19, Olds will celebrate the second day of Alberta Arts Days in a style that Central Alberta has never seen before.

From a painting workshop in the morning to an award-winning concert in the evening, the day-long event has something for everyone.  The festivities will take place at the Fine Arts & Multi Media Centre on the Community Learning Campus, one of five official Alberta Arts Days celebration sites.

“From September 18 to 20, our province will be humming with creative energy and Albertans everywhere will bring the very spirit of Alberta to life,” said Lindsay Blackett, Minister of Culture and Community Spirit.  “I look forward to the celebrations in Olds.  From workshops to music, fashion to dance, there will be something for everyone.”

“It was a proud moment when the Minister announced Olds would be included as a flagship celebration site,” said Kerry Moynihan, Executive Director of the Community Learning Campus.  “There have been over 40,000 people through the Fine Arts & Multi Media Centre since it opened in February, enjoying everything from sold-out high school theatre productions to historical lectures to music festivals.  This new facility is already a cornerstone for arts and culture throughout Central Alberta.  We can’t wait to celebrate that on September 19.”

Headlining the evening performance is Juno-nominee Gord Bamford, who also received both the Top New Male Talent and Record Producer of the Year awards at the 2008 Canadian Country Music Awards.

Also performing will be Jason and Sheldon Valleau, a.k.a. The Polyjesters, an award winning folk group from Didsbury.  The Valleau brothers founded the Mountain View Music Fest, which has built an international profile since its launch in 2006.  “We are so pleased with the growing interest in arts and culture in this area,” said Jason.  “Central Alberta is becoming known as a place that nurtures local talent, and that benefits everyone.”

Rounding out the evening is Jenn Beaupre, award-winning pianist and songstress whose most recent album Lullabies for Grown?Ups was released in 2007.

The Fine Arts and Multi Media Centre will be buzzing with activity long before the evening performance.  A Community Showcase will shine the spotlight on 14 different Central Alberta performers, from bluegrass to heavy metal with everything in between.

In addition to the musical performances, there will be a visual art show, trading card exhibit, and workshops where guests can try their hand at theatre make-up, woodcarving and pattern drafting.  All activities and performances are free, with ticketed general seating for the evening concert. Tickets will be available beginning August 31 for pick up at the CLC Offices in the Bell e-Learning Centre, or by phone at (403) 556-4762. For schedules, visit www.communitylearningcampus.ca.

Other flagship celebration sites chosen to plan and produce Arts Days celebrations are Calgary, Edmonton, Medicine Hat and Fort McMurray.
