RESEARCH ASSOCIATE – TURFGRASS
Salary Range: $56,432.05 - $77,594.07
Since opening its doors in 1913, Olds College (Olds, Alberta, Canada) has provided quality education and training which has launched successful careers for many generations of learners. With pride, Olds College can link the values that underpinned the first course offerings of the Olds School of Agriculture and Home Economics in 1913 to those reflected in courses offered 101 years later. This continuity has been coupled with change to address evolving learner needs and to reflect today’s economic environment. Small classes, customized training, continuing education and an emphasis on hands-on training continue to be characteristic features of courses offered today.
Olds College Centre for Innovation (OCCI) along with their industry partner, the Alberta Turfgrass Research Foundation, has established the Prairie Turfgrass Research Centre (PTRC) at Olds College in order to conduct industry priority applied research. OCCI has recently been awarded a large grant and at this time requires a Research Associate Turfgrass, who will be responsible for assisting in the planning, implementation and reporting of all research projects. Reporting to the Research Scientist, the Research Associate will be responsible for ensuring research projects are implemented and completed in a timely manner. As our program’s primary focus is in providing applied research for industry, the applicant will need to be able to communicate both in an academic and industry capacity.
Qualifications include a MSc in the field of turfgrass management, horticultural science, agriculture, or other fields which may relate to the specialized field of turfgrass science. Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience both in the turfgrass industry and research. Applicants with a BSc that have significant turfgrass maintenance experience and a keen interest in research may also be considered. Applicants for this job will be expected to work primarily in the field under all weather conditions and will be expected to promote a positive work environment for the staff they will be supervising and working alongside.
This is a contract position that will commence as soon as possible and run for the duration of the grant funding (February 28, 2019), at which time there may be an opportunity for extension.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority.
Please forward a resume quoting competition #15012M. Preference will be given to applications received by March 1, 2015 however; this competition will remain open until a suitable candidate has been selected.
