University of Alberta
Modified 2+2 Block Transfer Program
Olds College has developed a modified block transfer articulation agreement with the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics at the University of Alberta. This agreement identifies several transfer pathways for Olds College diploma graduates to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Alberta. Transfer pathways have been identified on the basis of similarity between diploma and degree curricula. This modified block transfer model determines specific diploma to degree transfer credit for each transfer pathway using a course equivalency approach. This agreement will be reviewed annually to evaluate and incorporate changes to Olds College diploma and/or University of Alberta Degree program curricula.
Students opting for a University of Alberta transfer opportunity will benefit by obtaining dual credentials (diploma and degree), with a blend of practical, applied college training and in depth university science and professional education. Degree graduates will be eligible to apply for Professional Agrologist or Home Economist accreditation (depending on the degree they earn).
The specific diploma to degree pathways are listed below. Olds College graduates exploring alternate transfer pathways can contact the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics for individual credit assessment. All transfer students must be in good standing and present university entrance requirements either through 30-level high school courses or college equivalents.
Application Process
Students can access the University of Alberta Web site www.ualberta.ca for detailed application information. Olds College students transferring to the University of Alberta after completing a diploma must apply to the University of Alberta by May 1 the year they plan to enter the university. Students are strongly recommended to apply in early January following receipt of year two fall session grades. Once the application meets admission requirements students will receive conditional admission status and be allowed to register. Students will then receive a transfer credit evaluation that will identify the courses they should register in. They should then register as soon as possible.
The university has an internal process to register students for spring/summer studies prior to their first September entry at U of A. Steps:
1. Apply for September study in Agriculture Forestry, and Home Economics.
2. Apply for May study in Open Studies (application deadline April 15th).
These are two separate application forms and application fees.
Spring session (May – June) courses taken from other institutions will meet transcript submission deadlines, but summer session (July – August) courses will not. Students completing bridging requirements after their first year at the university during spring/summer sessions will be able to register automatically.

AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM
This program is designed to provide an opportunity for students in a college of agriculture to enrol in another agricultural college for one session of their program. They will receive credit for study at the host college and ultimately graduate from their home college. The purpose is to provide students with a broadened education through travel and cultural experience involved in the exchange.
Because of variations in sessional dates, credit systems, and programs of study, the participating colleges are involved in an ongoing program of multilateral exchanges rather than one-on-one, reciprocal exchanges.
It is the responsibility of the individual student and his/her home college to determine a suitable program of study at the host college and to agree on the amount of credit to be given towards the diploma requirements of the home college. Travel, tuition and living expenses would remain the responsibility of the student.
It is the home college’s prerogative to set standards for participation in the program and to screen applicants. Because of possible gaps in the student’s education which may result from the exchange, most colleges require an applicant to demonstrate a high academic standing and a strong motivation to benefit from this exchange experience.
NOTE: Interested students should be prepared to confirm the credit agreement well in advance of commencing an exchange program.
A list of colleges which are participating in the program follows. Please make application to the Associate Registrar at Olds College.
